It Starts With You and Me
As moms, we make sure to keep those standing appointments with our kids’ dentists and doctors. We never forget a meeting with a client or business associate. We head to early morning meetings, music classes, and library story hour. Yet, taking care of ourselves is sometimes our last priority.
It shouldn’t be.
A dear friend of mine lost her mom to breast cancer many years ago. She put off seeing a doctor because she was breastfeeding at the time, and believed that it couldn’t be something serious while she was still so young. She couldn’t have been more wrong.
Moms, if you’re putting off your regular check up with your OBGYN, I know it’s not sexy but it is important. Get a regular papsmear. Schedule a breast exam. Tell the doctor if you’re having health concerns. Make yourself a priority because you deserve to feel your best, and your family wants you around for a long, long time.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Challenge yourself to do one thing to put your health back on your priority list. Make that appointment you’ve been putting off. Learn more about your family history. Do whatever it is you need to do to be your healthiest, happiest you today.
I want you to know that this is close to my heart. As the month draws to a close, for every purchase made in the Milkmakers store over the next 3 days, we’ll give $1 to The American Cancer Society for breast cancer research. Helping moms live healthy, long, happy lives is so, so important. And, it starts with you and me.
