My story, Milkmakers founder
Emily, mom to Isabel, Olivia & James
I’m Emily Kane, founder of Milkmakers. I created Milkmakers cookies because I needed them.
I went back to work after my first daughter was born, and I found myself in a new situation — trying to manage work life, home life, and fitting in the time to pump during an already busy day. My milk supply started to go down, and I worried that I wouldn’t be able to provide enough milk for my baby.
When a lactation consultant first told me about lactation cookies, it seemed too good to be true: I could eat delicious cookies AND increase my milk supply. To my surprise, I saw an immediate boost in my milk production.
As I baked each batch of lactation cookies and realized the powerful support that they provided to breastfeeding moms, I wondered why more moms didn’t know about lactation cookies. And why weren’t stores carrying them?
These questions led me to my mission: to support breastfeeding moms (and their babies) by offering lactation cookies to moms everywhere.
I know how hard it is to juggle work, kids and everything else that life throws at you. I want to share Milkmakers lactation cookies with you – and all moms. They are an easy way to gain the nutrition you need for breastfeeding, as well as a delicious, healthy treat that you can share with your families.
My hope is that Milkmakers will make breastfeeding more fun and convenient – and less stressful. I come from a long line of bakers. As I experimented with different lactation cookie recipes, I am delighted to say that I came up with the most delicious recipe of all.
How do lactation cookies work? Oats and brewer’s yeast are natural galactagogues (they promote an abundant supply of breast milk).
I am a longtime supporter of new parents. I have served on the board of the Community Birth and Family Center, a birth and education center for new parents. I have also served on the board of Open Arms Perinatal Services, whose mission is to provide services that support, educate, respect, honor, and empower women and their families throughout the childbearing years.
Go moms. I’m here to support you any way that I can.
